With the holiday season upon us and temperatures dropping rapidly, what better way to extend your outdoor season than with a custom fire pit, hearth or outdoor burning system?

Below are 12 Days of Fire Pits and what to consider when in the market for a fire pit.

Day 1) How much space do you have in your backyard or patio area for a fire pit? Should you consider a smaller chiminea, a portable fire pit, or do you have the space and money to invest in a custom built fire pit?

Day 2) After deciding, are you going to go with a natural gas, liquid propane or wood burning fire pit? Gas burning systems are always recommended for several reasons; safety, ease of use, fuel consumption, environmental and health factors. Gas burning systems can be controlled with the flip of a switch or the turn of a key and do not pollute the air with noxious ash, embers and smoke as do wood burning fire pits. Also, wood burning is outlawed in most residential neighborhoods and must be monitored at all times.

Day 4) Fire Bowl? You can achieve different looks by choosing either a fire bowl, custom fire pit, or hearth depending on how much money, space and time you want to invest in an outdoor burning pit. Fire bowls are very attractive, come in many shapes and are modern looking, but can be very heavy and expensive to ship.


Day 5) Hearth? Hearths are similar in weight but can act as more of a table with ledge and as centerpiece for the backyard or patio with seating in the round. Most hearths are either round or octagon and come engrained with custom tile.


Day 6) Custom fire pit? Custom fire pits can serve several purposes including a heat source, a centerpiece with seating or as a more decorative than functional heat source depending on your intended purpose and budget.

Day 7) Manual ignitor vs. Remote? Fire burning systems that run on gas come with an option to include a remote controlled ignitor, which is a bit more pricy, but very convenient, otherwise you are looking at a manual light system which will require you to open the gas lines and manually hold a lighter or match over the gas source in order to ignite the flame.



Day 8) Gas Logs? There are several options of concrete fire logs that look real but will not burn up. Gas fire pit logs are nice because they look like the real deal, are more natural in aesthetic value and absorb heat. But, you will never need to replace the logs, nor clean up ash. Logs need to sit on a medium above the burning system, so lava rock is usually recommended.



Day 9) Fire glass? Another option to cover your fire pit pan or plate is fire glass. Fire glass gives a more contemporary look to your fire pit and comes in several color options.



Day 10) Copper Domes? Copper Domes are a great way to control and disperse heat generated by the fire pit as the heat rises, it is captured by the copper and pushes the heat out evenly in a horizontal direction towards your friends and family. Domes are a great way to get the most out the heat generated by the pit and also proves some protection from weather.
